The mystery surrounding a UFO that RAF ballistic missile early warning system detected in the early 1980s remains unresolved. However, experts who investigated the incident believed it might have been an alien spacecraft in Earth’s orbit.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) detected and tracked the alleged UFO in 1981 until it mysteriously disappeared. It sparked concern because the RAF could not determine its origin and nature.

The UK government hushed up the incident after a top-secret investigation concluded it might have been a space rock or an alien spacecraft.

The latest report comes after US Space Force officials reportedly revealed they detected thousands of UFOs in space and voiced concern that alien spacecraft could be hiding undetected in Earth’s orbit.

UFOs often popped up on RAF radar

The ballistic missile early warning system (BMEWS) at the RAF Fylingdales base in North Yorkshire, England, was installed at the height of the Cold War to give early warning of a Soviet nuclear sneak attack.

However, UFOs constantly popping up on the radar often complicated matters for the operators.

A concerning incident occurred in the early 1980s, according to the Sun.

Former senior RAF officer shared experience

British UFO researcher Dr. David Clarke reported that a former senior officer at the RAF Fylingdales base shared his experience.

According to the Sun, Group Captain David Todd served as Senior Duty Officer at Flyindales in the 1980s. He later served as commander of the base in the 1990s.

Todd recalled that UFOs often popped up on the radar and that the operators would monitor as many as possible.

They were interested in tracking the UFOs because they did not know what they were and wanted to find out. But they often gave up tracking objects they couldn’t explain.

RAF detected a mysterious object in 1981

Todd recalled a particular UFO tracking incident that occurred in 1981.

The mysterious object appeared in Earth’s orbit, and the BMEWS operators tracked it for hours. They gathered information but not enough to solve the mystery surrounding its identity.

They kept track of the UFO until it disappeared mysteriously. Believing it was orbiting the Earth, they hoped it would come around again. But despite an intensive search, they never spotted it again.

UFO might have been an ET spacecraft, experts concluded

Todd said the mysterious disappearance of the object piqued interest in it.

The RAF contacted experts at SERCO (the defense contractor that built the radar systems) and asked them to investigate further. The experts invested considerable resources in the investigation but did not reach a definitive conclusion.

In the end, they proposed multiple theories. The top competing theories suggested the object might have been a meteor in Earth’s orbit or an extraterrestrial craft.

Although officials finally settled for the explanation that the object was a meteor orbiting in the same direction as the Earth, they acknowledged that it might have been an alien spacecraft.
