A video purporting to show evidence of a ghost haunting a high school in Tampa, Florida, is attracting attention online.

The video (see below), allegedly filmed by a janitor at King High School, purportedly shows paranormal activity in an empty classroom and hallway.

The janitor films an alleged ghost following him around as he cleans an empty classroom.

Florida high school built over an old cemetery

In the video uploaded to YouTube on December 19, a janitor supposedly working after school hours explains that he usually doesn’t film while working. But he was making an exception because something happened that “freaked” him out.

A voiceover then explains that the janitor witnessed spooky activity and captured it on camera. He also offers some background information about the school built over Ridgewood Cemetery in the 1960s.

The City of Tampa purchased 40 acres of land in the 1930s and used part of it as a cemetery until the mid-1950s. In the 1950s, the school district purchased a portion of the land, including the cemetery, and built King High School over it.

“I don’t know but [I gotta let you] guys know that the school is built on the cemetry,” the janitor says, pointing to a picture on the wall that shows a cemetery.

School built over 145 intact burials, video claims

The voiceover then suggests that building a school over the resting place of the dead was disrespectful. He claims that the authorities removed headstones for 145 burials during construction.

He said the authorities disregarded the feelings of the families who buried their loved ones there.

In 2019, the Daily Mail reported that researchers used ground-penetrating radar equipment to detect 145 intact burial caskets out of more than 250 burials at King High School.

Ridgewood Cemetery was previously a burial ground for local paupers and poor people, most of whom were African Americans.

Tampa Bay Times reported that the city authorities established Ridgewood Cemetery in 1942. A private company purchased the land in 1957 as a part of a 40-acre plot and sold it to the school district in 1959.

Janitors reported paranormal activity since the 1960s

Janitors who worked there since the 1960s shared tales of paranormal activity there, the video claims. They reported encountering ghosts in the classrooms, offices, and hallways after school.

The narrator explains that previous janitors said the spooky activities occurred at night. He did not believe the ghost haunting stories until he witnessed it.

Creepy red balloon follows the janitor

He was cleaning a classroom during his night shift when he witnessed strange occurrences.

The students threw a party in a classroom with balloons and other decorations. One of the balloons seemed to have a life of its own. He pointed to a balloon that was following him and started filming it.

As he walked out of the classroom into the hallway, the balloon floated slowly after him. It continued trailing him as he walked away.

He claimed he saw a ghostly apparition as the creepy balloon followed him.
