In an episode of Ancient Aliens on the History Channel, ancient astronaut theorists made the sensational claim that the Ark of the Covenant was alien tech. They suggested it was an advanced sonic weapon and that the Israelites used it to bring down the Walls of Jericho.

Ancient Aliens Season 2, Episode 6, titled Alien Tech (scroll down to see the full episode), explores the theory that our human ancestors witnessed technologically advanced aliens landing in sophisticated spacecraft. The aliens shared cutting-edge military technologies with humans centuries before modern science invented them.

Ancient astronaut theorists claim that the Old Testament story of the fall of the Walls of Jericho may have been one incident in history when humans received military assistance from technologically advanced aliens.

What are sonic weapons?

The US military and law enforcement agencies deployed the first sonic weapons called Long-Range Acoustic Devices (LRAD) in the early 2000s.

Certain types of LRADs, also called acoustic hailing devices (AHD) or sound cannons, are defensive sonic weapons. They produce high-decibel sounds, which cause physical effects when focused on a target.

When directed at people, the high-intensity sound can cause blindness, deafness, nausea, and other symptoms.

Although LRADs are considered cutting-edge sonic weapons technology, Ancient astronaut theorists believe the ancient Israelites may have used one during the Battle of Jericho.

The Battle of Jericho

The Battle of Jericho was one of the first the ancient Israelites fought when they crossed the Jordan into Canaan during the late Bronze Age (c. 1550–1200).

The battle offers potential evidence that sonic weapons are not exclusively 21st-century inventions, according to ancient astronaut theorists.

The Old Testament narrative claims that God ordered the Hebrew army under Joshua to march around the walled city once every six days. The procession included seven priests carrying rams’ horns ahead of another group carrying the sacred Ark of the Covenant.

On the seventh day, the priests blew their horns (shofar) after marching, and the great walls of the city fell.

Did aliens help Israel with a sonic weapon?

Jewish people and Christians believe the fall of the Walls of Jericho was a miracle. Scholars seeking a rational explanation claim that the walls might have fallen due to an earthquake.

However, ancient astronaut theorists proposed that the Ark of the Covenant might have been an advanced sonic weapon.

According to the theorists, the mysterious object may have emitted sound waves that caused the walls to collapse.

Tudor Parfitt, a professor of Jewish studies at the University of London, noted that the ancient Hebrews considered the Ark of the Covenant a weapon of war. He argued that the biblical story indicated that the presence of the Ark caused the collapse of the wall.

The professor speculated that the Ark might have been an alien tech artifact.

Where did the Ark come from?

Ancient astronaut theorists have proposed different suggestions about the origin of the Ark, but they all agree it was likely extraterrestrial.

Some theorists believe that Moses contacted an alien civilization when he went up to Mt. Sinai. There, they gave him access to a source of energy housed in the Ark.

The source of power helped to amplify the sound of the horns and transformed them into a sonic blast that brought down the walls using the principle of acoustic resonance.
